[Drawing Tutorial] 1. The Making of the Eye
Drawing instruments:
- a charcoal pencil
- a graphite pencil
- a paper blending stick
- a rubber [preferably a putty rubber]
I started by drawing a sketch of the eye [a very close picture of someone's eye is always very helpful because you will be able to see the lines, the light and the intensity]. Be sure to leave a white round space near the pupil for the light source [if you forgot to do so, you might be able to save it later with a rubber].
The most common mistake when drawing an eye is that you tend to forget about the strokes of the pencil and 'colour it pretty'. If you look very closely to an eye, you will see that if you want to stay in touch with reality you will have to fill in the eye with short strokes of the pencil, like it is shown in the pictures below [I am very sorry for the quality, the next ones will be better].
After you have finished with the filling of the area around the pupil, use your paper blending stick in order to mix the strokes of pencil. You will then need to use your putty rubber to add a little light to the eye you have just drawn. The eye is now close to being finished. Just add the upper and the lower eyelashes and you're done!
